St John's the Evangelist: New suite of unique screenprints
Current viewing_room
Fiona Grady has created a series of 12 unique screenprints in 5 layers of overlapping translucent colours. They are inspired by her research into stained glass window designs. The decorative window shape is a nod to the elaborated stained glass windows at St John's the Evangelist church, the oldest in Leeds City Centre, where she has been working on her "Patterns Throught Time" artwork.
The colours in this series of works on paper reference the bright and glowing coloured glass used in the windows of the churches. They are a mixture of palettes using cool blues and greens, flashes of tropical orange and contrasting reds and blues. The layering of translucent colours add a complexity and depth of tone to designs.
The works are currently unframed. However if you would like to contact Fiona Grady's studio we can suggest framing options or arrange framing as part of your purchase.
Each of the artworks is screenprinted by hand by Fiona Grady at Sonsoles Print Studio in Peckham, London. The screenprinting process uses five different stencils which are carefully aligned to build the full image. Each element of the artwork requires the overlapping of shapes, composed from translucent coloured inks, to create new tones of colour. The printing process is very intuitive, Fiona mixes and matches the colours as she is printing to explore the full palette and reach her desired result.
Due to the hand printed nature of the work each image is unique.
