Recreational Grounds

A Playground for Intervention
Fiona Grady, Anna Lytridou and Tim Ralston with essays by Eric Thorp and DATEAGLE ART, 2021

This limited edition 110 page full colour catalogue that explores the legacy of the first six exhibitions at the Elephant and Castle Recreational Grounds project space between 2018-2019. Devised by Fiona Grady, Anna Lytridou and Tim Ralston.

The publication includes an introduction by the curators, with essays by Eric Thorp and DATEAGLE ART. Designed by Carolina Festa and printed in the UK.

Recreational Grounds is situated in a redundant ground floor car park at Wendover House on the Aylesbury Estate; the space is a playground for intervention. The project encourages ephemeral approaches which react to the restrictions of the brief: to create outdoor site-responsive work for the 48 hour exhibition. The nature of temporary artwork in a public space demands creative approaches to making and installing, and it is this challenge, along with the unique space, that inspires the proposal.

The catalogue features work by over 40 contributing artists:
