Vincent Laganier editor of Light Zoom Lumière a Lyon based lighting publication spoke to the Lighting Collective to learn about the new publication Collected Light, which Fiona Grady is included in:
"Women Light Artists, Collected Light, Vol. 2, by Light Collective with Formalighting - a new book about the luminous talent of women around the world.
In the world of light-based art, a new book collection is gaining attention: Women Light Artists, Collected Light, Vol. 2. This second volume follows the success of the first, launched in November 2022. It was recently presented during Milan Design Week at a Women in Lighting event . It was co-organized with Elle Decor Italia and Formalighting. As Sharon Stammers and Martin Lupton of Light Collective say, "This book follows the first volume, highlighting the work of 44 other artists. We hope the beauty of each work will be a source of inspiration for those who discover it."
This second volume brings together the works of 44 female artists from various continents and cultures. It demonstrates the diversity and universality of light art. These artists, ranging from Alex Leyva to Ying-Chen Lin, exploit the light spectrum in an original way. They embrace a variety of themes, from social issues to pure aesthetic beauty.
Even today, male artists enjoy disproportionate visibility, while female talent remains less exposed. Underrepresented in art history, the publication of this book plays a crucial role in recognizing the contribution of women in the artistic field. Sharon Stammers and Martin Lupton emphasize: "After the first book and the exhibitions that followed, we began to discover more and more women working with light... We would like to thank all the contributors for their time and generosity."
