Drawing Biennial 2024

Online Auction is LIVE - Bid Now

The Drawing Room Gallery's celebrated exhibition and auction showcases around 300 drawings by some of the most interesting artists working across the globe today.

This year's Biennial is a vibrant pulse-check of contemporary drawing in 2024, as well as a vital fundraiser that provides Drawing Room with funding for the next two years of activity, supporting artists and our community through championing drawing.

274 artists have generously donated works to the Biennial in support of Drawing Room's mission. We hope you can match their support through bidding and acquiring one or more of these exceptional works of art. With drawings starting at £300, this is your chance to acquire unique and affordable works by artists you have long admired and those you discover anew.

Each Biennial reflects the conditions of our time; the form and the subject of the drawings operate as barometers of the complex issues we face today. Catherine Daunt's essay highlights the diverse ways in which the artists use drawing to 'pick, poke, prod and probe' to process and understand the world. The Biennial encapsulates Drawing Room's mission to champion this unlimited potential of drawing; by supporting it, you help us realise this aim through funding our exhibitions, unique library and learning projects, to ensure that everyone, particularly those who experience barriers to participating in the arts, can use drawing to realise their creative potential.

For the Auction, Fiona Grady has donated one of her first fused glass artworks Rays of Light (Spring). One in a series of new drawing propositions created from a fused glass panel. It is an imagining of a frozen moment in time - capturing and encasing the imperceptible - a ray of light. The transparent object allows light to travel through it, throwing out its own pool of colour and shadows. It is a meditative drawing that lives and breathes.
