A painting or a sculpture really exists somewhere between itself, what it is, and what it is not - you know. The very thing, and how the artist engineers or manages that is the question.
- Richard Tuttle
Rough or Smooth challenges the relationship and boundaries between a base surface and applied medium, while conveying colour, form, and / or depth, with the intention to break away from the comfortable and traditional surfaces of canvas, linen and paper, typically for painting and drawing. We wish to challenge these artists to apply their practices to a new and unfamiliar surface. Questiong the two-dimensional and three-dimensional contemporary art and see that differences arise when these realms are blurred. This group exhibition showcasing artists from across the UK brings together a range of disciplines, use of materials and individual ideas on representation from their varying practices, within these exhibitions parameters.
Featuring Artists: Christopher Campbell, Joss Cole, Benjamin Craven, Fiona Grady, Ellie Hawkes, Claire Jackson, Lea Rose Kara, Misc.etc, James Petrucci, Julia Pomeroy, Emerson Pullman
For the exhibition Fiona Grady is presenting two framed 'monotypes and a unique window installation.
