Definitions of Drawing II: Sunny Bank Mills Gallery, Farsley, West Yorkshire
Curated by Courtney Spencer, Definitions of Drawing II is the second incarnation of the exhibition bringing together the work of artists who interrogate the medium of drawing through their practices.
The artworks utilise a wide range of mediums, both traditional and unexpected techniques, to challenge our understanding of what contemporary drawing practices can look like. Featuring artwork by artists: Andy Black, Fiona Grady, Jan Hopkins, Jessica Akerman, Jia Xi Li, Kate Black, Kimbal Bumstead, Lesley Hicks, Lothar Götz, Rufus Newell, Saima Kaur, Sarah Roberts.
For the exhibition, Fiona Grady presented Rays of Light a new series of copper foil glass panels. This is first time that she has created an installation composed from glass. The artworks take inspiration from motifs of moving clusters of triangles, typical of her vinyl installations, however using a range of textured glass shapes. The panels are activated by daylight to highlight the character of the glass as they cast coloured shadows into the surrounding space to draw with light.
