Fiona Grady was commissioned to design a series of art interventions within the public areas of Ealing Hospital. She worked in close consultation with staff and patients to ensure the designs reflected the needs of the busy hospital, emphasising accessibility. Through research, discussion and feedback she created multi-layered artworks that include hand painted geometric murals, a 'stained glass effect' vinyl window installation in the Pharmacy Waiting Room and framed quotes.
Reflecting Nature uses a palette of harmonious pastel colours in shades of blue, green, and yellow to elevate the hospital environment. These calming tones echo colours from nature, featuring sky blues, leafy greens and golden hour yellows. Observing nature supports mindfulness, emotional restoration and reduces anxiety to foster a sense of connection and peace. The curved lines and tulip shapes are a gentle nod to the nearby local nature reserves including Conolly Dell and Brent Lodge Park.
A selection of the framed quotes were written with The Poetry Project - an initiative by James McInerney to spread positivity around the world. Their work explores how poetry can be a creative tool to transform public spaces and spark connection. James worked with staff and patients at Ealing Hospital to create inspirational quotes for the hospital community.
