is inspired by the children's kaleidoscope toy, combining a palette of rainbow transparent vinyl triangles that dance across the glass surface of the Jubilee Plaza's glass prisms. The colour palette references the iconic multicoloured Rainbow Pride Flag which reflects the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. The joyful use of colour celebrates every queer identifying individual to create a sense of collective belonging. The coloured shapes interlock and follow the structure of the glass panes to create directing arrows that lead their viewers to the central entrance powerfully announcing its presence.
From outside the glowing shapes add vibrancy to the area in contrast to the contemporary architecture of Canary Wharf. Throughout the seasons the vinyl triangles pinpoint the colours of the flora and fauna in the surrounding park. And within the prisms the shapes scatter along the glass ceiling and internal structure filtering the outside world. The stained glass effect vinyl pours rays of coloured light into the building with shadows from the shapes appearing on the floor and surfaces. The artwork changes with the time of day and the movement of the sun offering each viewer a unique experience that will make it worthwhile to return for future visits.
Kaleidoscopic Prisms was commissioned by Canary Wharf Group.
